The independently-owned Smart Toys and Books at Franklin Square (9700 Kingston Pike) is celebrating its silver anniversary along with showcasing the 2010 Best Toys for Kids Award Winners at a Neighborhood Toy Store Day, Saturday, Nov. 13, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. They’ll be giving away special 25th anniversary T-shirts, along with other prizes, drawings, and discounts. The 22 award-winning toys on display are selected annually by 500 local toy merchants across the country. Just a few include the Electronic Snap Circuits Set, where users place snaps to make, for example, burglar alarms and doorbells; the Playmobil furnished school building; and Green Toys stackers and blocks. “They’re made of reusable milk jugs, and made in America,” says store manager Maria Blakemore. “We love that made-in-the-U.S.A. stuff.”
