Local Biz: Handmade Holiday Trunk Show Goes On

After some initial hurdles, the Dec. 3-5 and 10-12 Handmade Holiday Trunk Show finally has a location, says key organizer Jill Colquitt—15 Market Square. If that address looks familiar, it is: Abode’s there now, but is closing so owners Matt and Allison Sprouse can concentrate on family and other business interests. They’ll have a “goodbye sale” Thanksgiving weekend, then the next two Friday-Saturday-Sundays Colquitt’s “seasonal pop-up shop” (as she calls it) moves in. This is the 5th annual Holiday trunk show featuring locally-crafted housewares, apparel, and accessories. Already in the cards are Colquitt’s nature-inspired kids clothing and perhaps a few of her repurposed tire planters (she’s got a day job at Fisher Tire, one of the show’s sponsors) and Dale Mackey’s air plants in vintage vessels. You never know what else will be there, but for sure it will be local and handcrafted. And organizers are still accepting applications, found at duchesscraft.com, via e-mail through Nov. 12.

Dates and hours: Dec. 3-5 and 10-12, Friday 12 noon-9p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Sunday 1 p.m.-5 p.m.; opening reception beginning 5 p.m. Dec. 4
