Allan Benton’s beloved bacon got a high-profile shout-out on a recent episode of HBO’s Treme. While food is often featured in the New Orleans series (set three months after Hurricane Katrina), “Shame, Shame, Shame” was a foodie blow-out, with a four-way cameo at the show’s upscale restaurant by some of the most famous chefs in the country: David Chang (Momofuku Noodle Bar), Eric Ripert (Le Bernadin), Wylie Dufresne (WD-50), and Tom Colicchio (surly star of Bravo’s Top Chef). Hustling their way to a table without a reservation, the four New Yorkers sit down and talk shop, and the dialogue turns to Benton’s Country Smoked Bacon. “I sprinkle that stuff on my breakfast cereal,” the restaurant’s chef Janette Desautel boasts to Dufresne. Now that’s some product placement we can endorse.
