While not actually in the city, this Friday and Saturday the Tennessee Tea Party Coalition will hold its convention in Gatlinburg. Billed as the first such statewide event by this fairly splintered movement, the Tea Partiers have planned a host of exciting activities for true patriots, such as discussions of some favorite (let’s be honest, most important) constitutional amendments: the 2nd, 10th, 16th, and 17th, which describe gun rights, state sovereignty, the federal income tax, and popular elections, respectively. The featured guest will be Paul Shanklin, a political humorist on Rush Limbaugh, and a number of other elected officials, authors, and people of various questionable credentials will be on hand to help you find something to get angry as hell about. Best of all, the event only costs $35, and patriots under age 21 get in free!
The party kicks off Friday night at 6 p.m. with a welcome social, but the real fun begins Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a talk entitled “The Unconstitutionality of Obamacare,” followed by “The Threat of Radical Islam” at 9:45. After lunch enjoy “The Impending Financial Collapse.” And that’s just one room! Truly, the hardest part of this weekend will be choosing where to spend tea time.
The event’s going to be held at the Gatlinburg Convention Center, 234 Historic Nature Trail. Go to tennesseeteapartycoaltion.com for advanced tickets and more information.
