Best Band: Dirty Guv’nahs

Runners Up: Black Cadillacs, Black Lillies, Dishwater Blonde

This marks the third year in a row that The Dirty Guv’nahs have won best rock band. The fact that the group started performing just three years ago makes it all the more remarkable. Then again, if you’ve seen one of their shows you know exactly why they claim the prize year after year. Their high-octane stages performances, set off by big guitars and even bigger choruses, have earned them legions of fans. They’ve opened for Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble, the Zac Brown Band is taking the Guv’nahs on tour in September, and the group will release its second full-length in July. But the band hasn’t let all this success go to their heads. “There’s still a lot of days I can’t believe I’m in a band,” says Guv’nahs frontman James Trimble. “It’s my true passion, but it’s not something I saw myself doing with my life.” (J.F.)
