Knox County Commission quickly deferred a decision on the Midway industrial park at its March meeting, without discussion. Insiders say the vote was so close that neither side could predict the results. If the proposed park is deferred at the April meeting, a decision would come after the May 4 primary election. Several commissioners would rather not vote on the issue until after the election results are known.
The proposed location of the industrial park in rural East Knox County is hanging by a thread. It also has to get the approval of Knoxville City Council to change the MPC sector plan and the votes for the park are not there at this point.
East Knox County residents have opposed the park off the Midway I-40 interstate exit and won the first round in court.
