State Rep. Frank Niceley, who represents parts of Knox and Jefferson counties, may be getting some help in his fight to stop a Norfolk Southern intermodal facility being proposed for New Market.
Niceley’s daughter, Anna Niceley Barreiro, has picked up a petition to run for Jefferson County Commission in the Sixth District, which includes Strawberry Plains adjacent to the proposed railroad terminal. Neither of the two incumbents in the district are running for re-election.
The Jefferson County Commission has passed a resolution opposing Niceley’s bill to forbid eminent domain to take prime farmland for a polluting industry in a non-attainment county. Anna Niceley Barreiro attended the commission to speak in favor of the legislation.
