If We Could Just Get an Interview...

Do not misunderstand me, I think its great that you would feature Scotty Hopson on your cover, and devote a full-length article about the Vols men’s basketball program [“Long Shots” by Brooks Clark, March 4, 2010]; however, you show so little support for the Lady Vols women’s basketball program—not to mention their award-winning, Hall of Fame coach, Pat Summitt.

Let’s see—in 2007 and 2008, Pat Summitt’s team won the national championship. Did Metro Pulse feature the team and its coaches on the cover either of those two years? No! Was there a full article devoted to their accomplishment? No! When Pat Summitt reached a milestone 1,000 victories last year in a rout of Georgia, did Metro Pulse feature Coach Summitt on the cover and devote a full article on her? No! It leaves me to ask this question: Why?

Hoping that this letter is published, I want to mention some of the things the Lady Vols women’s basketball team accomplished under the helm of Pat Summitt: eight national championships, 15-time SEC regular season champions, 13-time SEC tournament champions. Coach Summitt has been NCAA Coach of the Year seven times; she has been named SEC Coach of the Year eight times; and Naismith Coach of the 20th Century. These are just some of the accolades garnered by this team and its coach.

Metaphorically speaking, it doesn’t matter if your blood runs orange, it is high time that Metro Pulse salutes the achievements of a great women’s basketball team and its coaches with a cover layout and full-length article. I have been reading Metro Pulse for over six years, and I cannot recall ever seeing such a tribute to the excellence of this program. Shame on you!
