R.I.P. Shannon Stanfield

Shannon Stanfield, a presence on the local music scene as a photographer, journalist, and musician for more than 20 years, died on Sunday, Feb. 28, after a long fight with cancer. He might be best known under the stage name Clint Clinton, which he used as the frontman for the long-running rock band the Clintons, but he also took photographs for Metro Pulse, Knoxville Magazine, and the News Sentinel, and wrote the Town Hound column on local music for the News Sentinel from 1996 to 2000.

Stanfield was a graduate of West High School and the University of Tennessee. According to his website, he was diagnosed with gastrointestinal stromal tumor, a rare type of cancer, in 2007, and closed his photography business in January.

A memorial service for Stanfield will be held at Manhattan’s in the Old City on Sunday, March 7, at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, his family has suggested donations to the American Cancer Society.
