Last weekend, at the annual convention of the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, Metro Pulse picked up three 2010 AltWeekly Awards. These awards are especially important to us because they honor the best writing and reporting from alt weeklies across the U.S. and Canada—and the 2010 contest fielded over 1,000 entries from nearly 100 papers. In competition with papers with a circulation of under 50,000, Metro Pulse was awarded:
PUBLIC SERVICE, third place: TVA Ash Spill stories by Charles Maldonado and Frank Carlson
COLUMN, third place: Secret History by Jack Neely
MEDIA REPORTING / CRITICISM, third place: “Care to Comment?” by Frank Carlson, our cover story about online comments on news stories
