Southern Socialists

Zmaster: Come out, come out, wherever you are!

red_collar: Ha where I live and Tennessee there aren’t any other socialists sadly, I have to go to knoxville to find them...but I’m in the South...

ThePerformingFlea: Hi! I’m another TN socialist, from Knoxville, and I attend UT. I’m majoring in Latin, but I’m very political and would be interested in helping out with a Southern or Southeastern chapter. The only problem is around here, being to open about your socialist beliefs will get things thrown at you in a hurry. But the best way to affect change is in the heart of the beast, right?

Yeah, there are socialists/communists in this area, though we are few and far between. From what I can tell, this group of people are mostly found in the intellectual circles. Unfortunately, the Christian right have brainwashed a lot of the proletariat community. I'm in a union for my workplace, and most of the members are so mixed up about who will fight for their rights.
Anyway, enough preaching to the choir. I'd be interested in starting a chapter here. Right now, I'm mainly following and liking what the PSL has to say.
Keep up the good fight, comrades!

The title of this story is misleading. The 1.7 million figure is not the number of "hits". It is the number of competing websites related to the keywords "knoxville" and/or "socialists". If you want a more accurate figure, type in google search "knoxville socialists" (with parentheses). You'll see there are only 503 competing sites for that related keyword. And to beat this horse dead - using google's keyword tool to see how many times knoxville + socialists has been searched for in the past month - google returns no information siting "not enough data".

Well, I suppose I could start limiting the results by putting the keywords in quotes, but I think that would only return pages with those two words used directly together — but what I’m really looking for are pages that have both of those words on them, not necessarily back to back.

Knoxville Googled is not intended as a gauge of the online popularity of “Knoxville socialists” or the other topics; it’s intended to find wacky things written about Knoxville. So if I were to start limiting the returns, I think the results may be less fun.

Maybe we just need to use a more accurate term than "hits"? Would "returns" work?
