Commissioner Paul Pinkston Reconsiders Reelection Run

County Commissioner Paul Pinkston had announced he would not seek re-election, deferring to his friend and supporter Victoria DeFreese to run instead. DeFreese had to drop out because of a family situation. The movement began to “draft” Pinkston to reconsider and run again.

At a community breakfast meeting at Shoney’s Friday morning, residents gathered to sign Pinkston’s petition and he agreed to run. Former Sheriff Tim Hutchison, currently a candidate for county mayor, attended to offer his support. Paul Pinkston and his late brother Howard (who also served on commission) have long been influential in South Knoxville politics.

Since the two commission positions in South Knox have been collapsed into one position under a charter change, Pinkston will be running against seatmate Mike Brown. Chuck Ward and Donald Land have also picked up petitions to run.
