There have been rumblings recently about problems in the state weatherization project and a preliminary audit last week reveal that indeed to be true.
The problem is the money was part of the stimulus package and it came to the state with orders to SPEND IT. The state wasn’t really prepared with a program so they sent it out to regional organizations with orders to SPEND IT. So they did.
We hear to qualify to get money for energy efficiency you just had to ask for it. Procedures were not in place in several areas because no one was set up to handle such a program.
But they SPENT IT.
