Capitol Hill watchers expected Gov.-elect Bill Haslam to hire a former legislator to be his liaison to the General Assembly and several names were floated. But no one expected the former legislator to be from the days of the Alexander administration.
Dale Kelley, the mayor of Huntingdon, Tenn., was a legislator and cabinet member from those days, but given the turnover in the Legislature in recent years about the only current legislator he served with is octogenarian state Sen. Douglas Henry.
Kelley and Deputy Gov. Claude Ramsey are in their 70s, providing the youthful Haslam with plenty of seniority in his senior advisers.
