Third Snow Day Benefit for Beardsley Farm Set for January

The Snow Day benefit for Beardsley Community Farm is turning into a local winter tradition—the third and biggest version is scheduled next month, with music by more than half-a-dozen local bands, a soup contest, and a silent auction to raise money for the urban demonstration farm.

Snow Day starts at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, at Barley’s Taproom in the Old City, with music by Christabel and the Jons, the Kevin Abernathy Band, the Vaygues, the Theorizt, Ian Thomas, Mountains of Moss, and the Great Great Pines. Participating restaurants for the soup-off contest have not been announced. Admission is $7; tickets for soup are an additional $3.

Beardsley Community Farm, located in Mechanicsville, demonstrates the benefits of organic farming to school groups and the community. All the food produced there is donated to local food pantries and farm volunteers. Snow Day is responsible for nearly 20 percent of the farm’s annual operating budget.
