Sean McCollough and Friends
This Is Our House (Little Thing Records)
On this solo album—which isn’t exactly solo, with contributions from more than a dozen local musicians—LoneTones guitarist/banjoist Sean McCollough has crafted an all-around album of children’s music that will also appeal to parents (and even adults who don’t have kids). More than half of the disc’s 16 songs are traditional tunes (“Mole in the Ground,” “I’ve Been Workin’ on the Railroad,” “The Crawdad Song”), and the same bouncy, old-time hoedown feel extends to McCollough’s original compositions. This Is Our House is enlivened by Greg Horne’s fiddle, Kevin Abernathy’s slide guitar, and Phil Pollard’s various percussive additions, but it’s McCollough’s jubilant, brightly colored vision running through it all that makes the disc a small wonder.
