The last few weeks have been busy for Tim Lee and his band, the Tim Lee 3 (that’s Lee’s wife, Susan Bauer Lee, on bass and Matt Honkonen on drums). And the summer looks to be even busier, as the band plans to start recording its new album in June.
Earlier this month, the band took a local triple bill on the road, playing in Whitesburg, Ky., and Winston-Salem, N.C., with R.B. Morris and former Tenderhooks frontman Jake Winstrom. (Lee calls the package tour the “Knoxville Invasion.”) The TL3 is also still working on new material with Winstrom, and they’ve been preparing songs with former Judybats leader Jeff Heiskell for his next solo record. They’ll record with Heiskell in May, then start recording the follow-up to their own 2008 disc Good2b3 in June, with plans to release the new album by the end of the year.
The Tim Lee 3 is opening for renowned producer/jangle-pop guru Mitch Easter on Saturday, May 1, at 10 p.m. at Barley's Taproom in the Old City. Admission is $5.
