County Mayor's State of Community Address; Community Gardens at Tribe One

Want to rub elbows with Mayor Mike Ragsdale one last time before he moves on forever? At the Bijou Theatre on April 27, the county mayor will deliver his state of the community address, in which he’ll lay out his plans for the coming fiscal year. Because of the economy, Ragsdale has said he’ll need to trim expenses anywhere from 4 to 8 percent; at 8 percent, county department heads have said they will almost certainly have to lay off county employees. If you are one of those county employees, this might actually be one meeting worth attending.

The speech begins at 8 a.m. but a networking coffee precedes that at 7:30. The public is welcome and can make reservations by calling 215-3390.

After the mayor’s morning budget meeting, head off to work and then to Tribe One that evening. There, the Knoxville-Knox County Food Policy Council will share ideas with the public for how to incentivize community gardens and the local food movement.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at 2112 E. Magnolia Ave.
