New Unplugged Series Kicks Off at Preservation Pub

Kevin Hyfantis, leader of the Bishop’s Band, kicked off the first of a monthly series of unplugged performances at Preservation Pub last week. Hyfantis isn’t playing, though—he’s booking and hosting the series, called Stripped Down, which will be held on the last Tuesday of each month.

“The concept is to get local artists—and also out-of-town artists—who play with a band and who you rarely see in an acoustic format,” Hyfantis says.

Tim Lee and his band—his wife Susan Bauer Lee and Matt Honkonen—played the first set on March 30.

“We’re still trying to feel things out,” Hyfantis says. “They did it as a whole band, but they did it acoustic. It’s about impossible to turn Preservation Pub into a listening room, but that’s the direction I want to go in, so that we get people in here who want to see their favorite artists in a different kind of format.”

Grant Geren from Shortwave Society and Henry Gibson, formerly of Cold Hands and Royal Bangs, are set to play on April 27.
