Candidates for State Senate Wanted

The search continues to find someone, anyone, to run against state Rep. Stacey Campfield who is seeking the state senate seat being given up by county mayoral candidate Tim Burchett. A Democratic emissary from Nashville even floated the name of Tim Priest, distinguished attorney and everyone’s favorite Vol, but no one believes it.

Democrat Cortney Piper, a one-time County Commission candidate and treasurer for Mike Padgett’s senate campaign, has been mentioned. But Piper recently joined Susan Williams’ PR firm and is working on energy issues. But she has not ruled it out. At present, Randy Walker seems to have the Democratic mantle.

On the Republican side, Ellen Adcock is still soliciting support and organizing for a run against Campfield in the primary, as is Ron Leadbetter, a retired UT counsel who ran against Campfield for his House seat last time out.

Update and Correction: On Thursday, Ron Leadbetter threw his hat into the Republican primary and will square off against Campfield. Also, despite his email to Metro Pulse in January, we neglected to mention Chuck Williams as a Democratic candidate for the seat.
