A group of local artists, musicians, and writers who have collected themselves under the name Karma Thieves will present a three-hour reading of Jack Kerouac’s book-length 1959 poem Mexico City Blues at Pilot Light on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 7 p.m.
Karma Thieves consists, at least so far, of “Smokin’” Dave Nichols, Greg Horne, Dirk Weddington, Vince Ilagan, Nate Barrett, Greg Congleton, Kari Hoffman, Dale Mackey, David Phillips, Eric Sublett, Jack Rentfro, R.B. Morris, Jim Conn, Andrew Miller, and Joe Casterline. More readers and musicians may be added by the time of the show.
The reading celebrates the 50th anniversary of the book and the 40th anniversary of Kerouac’s death.
This will be the fifth Knoxville performance of the poem. The most recent took place in 2004. Admission is $5.
