Spotlight Motorcycle Events for October

Spotlights:

Shiloh Riders’ 18th Annual East Tennessee Toy Run

The Shiloh Riders started the East Tennessee Toy Run 18 years ago to help bring Christmas joy to children in the community, and it’s grown steadily into one of the biggest rides of the season. Last year, about 1,700 motorcycles participated, and the ride provided toys to over 1,100 children in East Tennessee. Rest assured, your donations will find their ways to deserving hands. “The Shiloh Riders conduct sign-ups so parents/guardians can provide ages and gender, and then the distribution is held at the Sevier County Community Center,” says organizer Jim White. “Toys are also taken other charitable organizations.” The ride starts at the Smokies Stadium and ends at Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson (Maryville). Gates open 9 a.m., ride leaves at 1 p.m. There is a $10 per person donation requested, or bring a new, unwrapped toy of equal or greater value. Featuring food, music, vendors, and auction items.

18th Annual Marine Corp Toys for Tots Ride

Nov. 1 will mark the 18th Annual Marine Corps Toys For Tots Ride. This is the official Marine Corps-sponsored toys ride, and with an anticipated crowd of over 2,500 bikes it should be another big success. J.T. Cash, who heads up the ride says, “We don’t have a club that does this ride, it’s just a small group of us who work with the Marine Corps League Detachment #1206 out of Sevierville to make this happen. It’s not about recognition, its all about the event.” It was started by Joe Thomas in 1991 and left out of his gas station with 8-10 bikes. The 2009 Ride will leave out of the Sevier County Fairgrounds. The Gates will open at 10 a.m., and the bikes will start rolling out at 1 p.m. The ride will end at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville where Buddy’s Barbeque will provide the food. The cost of the ride is a new, unwrapped toy, or a $10 Donation per rider.
