Former Whiskey Scars guitarist and songwriter Jonathan Sexton and his backing band, the Big Love Choir, are getting set to release their second album this fall. The disc, titled New Day, was recorded at Waterworks Studios in Nashville over a two-week period in June and will be released on Oct. 23. The band’s performing that night at the Square Room on Market Square to celebrate the new album, with Stephanie’s Id from Asheville opening. Tickets are available at squareroom.com.

Sexton says New Day features the band more fully than Big Love, released in 2008 and credited to Sexton and the Big Love Community Choir. The current Big Love Choir lineup features Sexton on guitar and vocals, drummer Dave Campbell, guitarist Andrew Sexton, vocalist Elodie Lafont, and bassist Niles Haury.
