Brackins Blues Bar Hosts Regional Qualifier

Attention aspiring blues musicians: Brackins Blues Bar in Maryville will host a regional qualifier in October for the Memphis-based Blues Foundation’s 2010 International Blues Challenge. The winners will be entered in the IBC finals in Memphis in January, where they’ll compete with regional entrants from around the world for cash, publicity, promotional material, and spots at several high-profile concerts and festivals.

The rules and scoring criteria for the IBC will apply at the regional contest—scores are based on “blues content,” vocal and instrumental skill, stage presence, and originality. It’s a complicated formula, and IBC organizers say the judges can be strict; for details visit blues.org.

The Smoky Mountain Blues Society’s competition will be held at Brackins on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and Thursday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. Entry fee for the competition is $25; admission to the club for the show is $5. Contact Tim Spencer at tshawnspencer@hotmail.com for more information.
