Early Voting for City Council Primaries Continues

This November, some (likely) small percentage of the city’s voting pool will have the opportunity to elect five new members to City Council Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6. So, theoretically, it’s pretty exciting stuff. There are 14 candidates now competing in the district-only primaries, 13 of whom have never served on City Council before. (If you don’t know anything about them yet, go to our election guide to read issues-oriented interviews with each one.) The top two vote-getters in each district will compete for the positions in the citywide election in November. This week begins that whittling down process, as voters who live in the relevant districts can head to the polls for early voting, which began on last week and continues until Sept. 17. Election day is Sept. 22. To find early voting locations and hours, go to the Knox County Election Commission’s web site at www.knoxvotes.org.
