Eric Berry’s Heisman Hopes on Paper

The University of Tennessee is pinning its hopes on defensive back Eric Berry being selected as the Heisman winner for the 2009-2010 college football season. Here are the statistics that just might put Berry in the running:

  • • Junior, majoring in psychology
  • • 5’11”, 203 lbs.
  • • Career interceptions 12 with 487 return yards and three touchdowns
  • • Enters 2009 needing just 15 interception return yards to break NCAA record of 501
  • • 26/26 career games and starts

2008

  • • Led nation with 265 interception return yards
  • • Interception returns for touchdowns against Miss. State (72 yards) and Vanderbilt (45 yards)
  • • Interception returns for impressive yardage against Georgia (54 yards), South Carolina (47 yards) and Northern Illinois (46 yards)
  • • 72 tackles, ranking 18 in the SEC
  • • First career sack, against Florida
  • • 11 tackles against Alabama
  • • At least three tackles in all 12 games

2007
