East Tennessee Motorcycle Events for November

SPOTLIGHTS

East Tennessee Children’s Hospital Fund-Raiser Ride and Show

Emily Barger was 7 years old and Maddie Harrill was only 5 years old when they both lost their battle with a rare form of childhood cancer called Rhabdomyosarcoma on June 24 and July 13, 2008 respectively. It is a form of cancer that only affects children.

Emily Barger and Maddie Harrill’s parents were from Madisonville, Tennessee in Monroe County. There is a third child from Madisonville who has been diagnosed with this same form of cancer. These and other children receive tremendous care and relief from doctors and staff at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. The Hematology/ Oncology Department provides special care to chidren and their families dealing with cancer—100 percent of registration revenue from this ride will go to benefit the department ($20 per motorcycle, $5 to enter the show). Held in conjunction with the Dixie Iron Riders.

Sunday, October 25 • Starting Point will be at 411 Biker Depot (107 Nicole Ct., Maryville—across from the entrance of William Blount Drive and Poncho’s Mexican Restaurant) • Registration at the event: 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. • live music noon-2 p.m.• Ride begins at 2 p.m. • motorcycle show at 4 p.m. • show winners announced at 5 p.m. • For more information contact: Tina McKeehan at (865) 982-2066 or visit www.butterflyfund.org

Rally at the Strip

Last June, Greg Almany made his dream of a mega-moto rally at the English Dragstrip in Newport a reality. It was so successful, that he decided to do it again just five months later.

Rally at the Strip’s secret weapon is the dragstrip itself—riders can make timed runs on their own motorcycle. Anyone whose bike and gear passes the safety inspection can race their buddy, or just make a pass on their own. Another unique attraction is the 3,900 square foot, drive-thru biker pub that features food, beverages, and live music. There will also be a battle of the bands on Thursday and Friday nights, judged by headliner Geneva and her band. Outside entertainment includes a burn-out contest that will pay cash prizes, as well as different biker games throughout the rally. And on Sunday morning, there are even church services.

Rally at the Strip • Nov. 5-8 • English Mountain Dragstrip [1325 Lewis Road, Newport, Tenn.] • $35 for entire festival, day passes $20 • rallyatthestrip.com
