The good news is that fiscal experts in Nashville say the state budget situation is not as bad as the Bredesen administration projects it. They say state government often overestimates revenue during the first half of the fiscal year, which began July 1, and underestimates it the second half of the year. Most business taxes come in in the spring, for instance, and it evens out.
The bad news is that the same fiscal experts also say state revenues suck and the state budget is in trouble. But just bad car-wreck trouble. Not a train derailment. Yet.
