John Puckett, III
Do you like bongos? That’s a question you’ll need to consider seriously before dipping too deep into singer/songwriter John Puckett’s new album; what you’ll get out of III depends mightily on your tolerance for Caribbean-style percussion. If you have any reservations at all about jam-band funk and Sublime-style reggae rock (with lots of hand drums, of course) you’d do well to steer clear of this disc. If that sounds like your kind of thing, dig in, because III is pretty much 45 solid minutes of East Tennessee island vibes, complete with skanking bass, the whiff of ganja smoke, and liberation slogans.
