On Monday, the city will hold a public meeting to discuss the ongoing Gay Street construction and lay out the future work schedule. “It’s really just a briefing as to where we are in construction, and a chance for the folks there, if they have any concerns, to raise them,” says Rick Emmett, urban growth manager for the city. “I promised folks that once we started sidewalk construction I’d have a meeting.”
The first section of concrete was recently poured on the western side of the 200 block, and excavation will soon begin on the 100 block, which has not seen major repairs since its creation in 1919. You can read pretty regular updates, complete with photos, at Emmett’s blog (100blockconstructionknox.blogspot.com).
Also scheduled to appear will be representatives from KPD, the CBID, the city’s engineers, and the project’s contractor. The meeting takes place at 5 p.m. in the Emporium Building, 100 S. Gay St.
