In the May 2009 issue we mentioned a fast-growing group of women riders who call themselves, appropriately, The Lady Bikers. They ride together frequently. And at regular meetings and via their website, they stress safety and share information with women who like to ride but might be disinclined to ride alone. They’ve gone from three members to 139 members in less than a year.
On Nov. 21 The Lady Bikers will be hosting their first Motorcycle Fair, at North Acres Baptist Church, 5803 Millertown Pike, from 10 a.m. til 1 p.m. Groups or individuals wishing to exhibit at the fair are invited. In lieu of booth fees, exhibitors are asked to donate a door prize. The event is still a few weeks away as this issue gets to press, but organizer Vicky Cromwell says response has been good.
“Steelhorse Lawyers will be there, and will be speaking from 11:30 to 12 about motorcycle laws,” says Cromwell. “We will have door prizes from places such as Saddlebags Bar & Grill, Orange Pearl Salon, Smoky Mountain Knifeworks, Tanasi Candles & Giftbaskets, Goddard’s Tree Service, KylieKandy by Elaine, Sonya Foust Creations, Sew Unique, and many more.”
There will also be a motorcycle show, judged by fair attendees. And Cromwell asks that you bring along your retired cell phones and chargers; the group is collecting phones to be recycled and put to use by a women’s shelter.
