1st Annual Rally at the Strip
English Mountain Dragstrip in Newport is the location for a new, three-and-a-half-day motorcycle rally, which means it’s got something no other rally can claim: namely, a dragstrip. Participants can make timed runs on their own motorcycle on the dragstrip. Anyone whose bike and gear passes the safety inspection can race their buddy, or just make a pass on their own.
But that’s not all. Another unheard-of attraction is the 3,900 square foot, drive-thru biker pub that will feature food, beverages, and live music. There will also be a battle of the bands on Thursday and Friday nights, with the winner opening for headliner Geneva. Outside entertainment includes a burn-out contest that will pay cash prizes, as well as different biker games throughout the rally.
Event organizer Glen Almany, who was raised on the property next to the drag strip, has dreamed for years of putting on such an event. “We intend for this to be a premier event for the area for years to come,” he says.
