Election Commissioner Seeks Open Selection Process

Knox County’s new election commissioner, attorney Bob Bowman, will take office in April and he says he wants an open process in selecting the next election administrator and that he did not make any promises to members of the legislative delegation about how he would vote.

In fact, Bowman said he was surprised that none of the legislators asked him to commit to a particular candidate before he was selected. At least two candidates have been in contact with commissioners, City Councilman Steve Hall and school board member Cindy Buttry. Greg Mackay is the current election administrator and is also expected to be a candidate to keep the job.
