Knoxville expat (and former Metro Pulse sales rep) Louise Mosrie moved to Nashville a while back to focus on her singer/songwriter dreams, but it was in the Texas Hill Country last week that she found the limelight.

Mosrie was one of six winners of the Kerrville New Folk Concerts for Emerging Songwriters, held at the Quiet Valley Ranch near Kerrville, Texas. The Kerrville Folk Festival is one of the biggies in the folk-music world, started in 1972 and drawing upwards of 30,000 people every year for more than two weeks of folk music. Mosrie made the final six after being selected as one of 32 finalists from a field of 800 submissions, and got to deliver the New Folk’s final performance on May 31.

“The show on Sunday was positively transcendent,” Mosrie says. “It was the most welcoming and kind audience ever assembled on the planet, I think. I feel very lucky. My name was the last to be called and I was truly stunned. Beyond the contest, the other songwriters I met at this festival will be friends for life. The people at Kerrville are just frankly some of the most down to earth and kind folks I’ve ever known.”

Since winning, Mosrie says she’s seen her website traffic double, and she’s also considering offers to play other festivals.
