Knox County Law Director Bill Lockett admitted at a recent Retirement and Pension Board Meeting that, in 2005, he improperly took money from Kennerly Montgomery & Finley, the law firm at which he was then employed. In response, several County Commission members and local leaders have called for Lockett’s resignation, but Lockett has refused so far. Since law director is an elected position, though, Lockett cannot be removed from office unless his law license is revoked or there is a recall petition. The County Ethics Committee will meet next week to discuss the issue and make a recommendation to County Commission as to how to proceed.
Tuesday, June 9, at 8:30 a.m., Small Assembly Room, City County Building
