When Republicans were jockeying to try and oust Greg Mackay as election administrator, several behind-the-scenes negotiations involved installing a Republican as administrator while keeping Mackay as chief deputy at a nice salary. This compromise was seen as a way to mollify Mackay supporters and satisfy Republican Party demands that a Republican get the top job.
Mackay kept his job by getting the Election Commission’s two Democrats and Republican Paul Crilley to vote for him. Scott Frith was the runner-up.
Now Frith is joining the election commission as chief deputy to Mackay. Frith has been active in local Republican campaigns and his presence may mollify some of the anger among Republican party members that Mackay was retained.
