I just loved the last 15 lines of Jack Neely’s piece on sidewalk cafés! [“Sidewalk Cafés,” Secret History, July 9, 2009] I wanted to add that the Impressionists and existentialists and beats did not have cellphones back then to annoy those seeking a meditative environment—and isn’t it a blessing that most leave their plasma screens indoors!
