Councilwoman Barbara Pelot was not happy when Ken Knight challenged her for her seat four years ago. The term-limited Pelot has been looking for a potential successor since Knight announced another run for the seat.
Pelot and her predecessor and ally, former Councilwoman Jean Teague, recruited Duane Grieve to run for the post. Grieve is an architect who has been involved in downtown redevelopment, most notably the reconstruction of the Miller’s Building into KUB’s downtown headquarters.
Knight is the manager of the Crown Plaza downtown and was a leader in the referendum effort to stop city funds being used for a convention center hotel.
