Burchett Seat up for Grabs

Ellen Adcock is seriously considering a run for the state Senate seat being given up by state Sen. Tim Burchett, who is running for county mayor. She would probably face state Rep. Stacy Campfield in the Republican primary next year. Campfield’s House district is within Burchett’s Senate district and he is also lining up support for the race.

Adcock was head of administration for Republican mayor Victor Ashe and campaigned for former state Rep. Jim Henry’s gubernatorial campaign in the Republican primary in 2002. She narrowly lost a city council race against Councilman Steve Hall in 2005.

While working for Ashe, she was the liaison to various community groups and has a network of friends and supporters. Campfield is probably the best known member of the House delegation, with his blog and as the sponsor of often controversial bills that generate a lot of ink.

It’s a clear contrast if they are the only two candidates, but several more candidates may get in by filing deadline.
