Butch the Board Room Boxer earned Best In-Store Pet honors this year in our Best of Knoxville readers’ poll, but he’s a rookie compared to Morgan at Bill Jones Music on far-West Kingston Pike. Seems Morgan, who’s also a boxer, has been coming to work with Jones for four years, versus Butch’s one. And she travels for business. “When I drive to the Chattanooga store, she’s in the back seat,” says Jones. “I don’t go anywhere without her. She’s the most calm dog I know, which is unusual for a boxer.” Her owner, though, is vigorously enthusiastic about a recent uptick in piano sales at the store. “’08 was as tough for us as it was for anyone,” says Jones. “But I saw a turnaround in ’09. We’re doing substantially better than both of the years before. In 2008, people just looked. Now they’re buying, and these are big ticket items. Consumers must feel a little more comfortable about spending money now.” A new line of Lowrey organs designed specifically for senior citizens is doing especially well, notes Jones. “And our institutional Allen organs—church organs—have had consistently strong sales throughout the recession.”
