Ignoble finish for a Kiffin

Fox Sports notes that when the University of Tennessee announced the hiring of Lane Kiffin as its new football coach on Dec. 7, rumors started that he would hire his father Monte Kiffin from the Tampa Bay Bucs to be defensive coordinator.

Since Dec. 7, Monte Kiffin’s defense at Tampa gave up 123 points in the team’s last four games, losing all four, and missing the playoffs. Monte Kiffin’s boss, Jon Gruden has been fired as a result. Until Pearl Harbor Day, the Bucs had been 9-3 and were picked to appear in the Super Bowl.

The Bucs lost to Carolina, 38-23, Atlanta 13-10, San Diego 41-24 and to Lane’s former team, the Oakland Raiders, 31-24. If the Bucs had won any one of the games they would have made the playoffs.
