Flip a coin for the mayoral race?

Who is winning the pre-primary race for Knox County Mayor?

County Commissioner Richard Briggs and Lewis Cosby are soliciting support to oppose announced candidate state Sen. Tim Burchett in 2010 to replace the term-limited Mayor Mike Ragsdale. Supporters of each think that if both run they split the non-Burchett vote and they both lose.

Briggs is a heart surgeon who would have to give up the thing he loves doing, a la Bill Frist in 1994, in order to pursue politics. Cosby sees the financial mess that is Knox County and is itching to use his expertise to clean it up.

Will one of them bow out, or will they both run against Burchett?

Stay tuned.
