Cider House Rules

When he opened The Valarium in early 2008 in the old Electric Ballroom building on Western Avenue, Gary Mitchell said he envisioned the club as the first part of a warehouse entertainment district near Fort Sanders and World’s Fair Park. That may still be a ways off, but Mitchell is expanding on his own, opening the Cider House in the building adjacent to The Valarium as an offshoot of the first club.

The Cider House, officially opening on Thursday, Jan. 29 with a late-night show by local hard-rock band 1220 following the Drive-By Truckers concert at The Valarium, will offer after-concert parties and sets by local and regional club acts. The schedule so far includes DJ Simon Belmont on Saturday, Jan. 30, after the Disco Biscuits show at The Valarium; the Cornbred Blues Band on Wednesday, Feb. 4, after Citizen Cope; a CD release show for Morristown’s Vertigo on Friday, Feb. 6; and Hank Williams III bassist Joe Buck Yourself on Tuesday, March 3.
