Old City to Host Hip-Hop Summit

If you don’t know where to look, it might be hard to notice that Knoxville does, indeed, have a hip-hop community. It’s smaller and scrappier than in a lot of Southern cities of similar size, but it’s there. And quite a bit of its best talent will be at Club 106 in the Old City on Thursday night for a local showcase intended to highlight and promote Knoxville’s hip-hop and R&B artists.

United We Stand, featuring rappers Mr. Kobayashi, Black Atticus, and Area-51 and singer Raymond B, starts at 9 p.m. Kobayashi has hosted regular local events at Club 106 for about a year, including frequent MC contests. Mr. Mack, whose singles “Where You From (Da 865)” and “So Fly” were in regular rotation on WKHT FM 104.5 a couple of years ago, is also scheduled to make an appearance.
