East Tennessee Musicians Featured on Tribute Album

Singing Through the Hard Times is a new double-CD tribute to Southwest folk singer Utah Phillips

Singing Through the Hard Times, a new double-CD tribute to Southwest folk singer Utah Phillips just out on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records, features an all-star lineup of folk singers, including Emmylou Harris, John McCutcheon, Pete Seeger, and DiFranco herself. Lodged right in the center of the first disc are East Tennessee singer/songwriters Sparky and Rhonda Rucker, who have long been part of the protest movement, performing a fiery, banjo-driven version of the traditional song “Reuben’s Train,” often performed by Phillips during his nearly 50-year career.

Phillips died in May. Proceeds from Singing Through the Hard Times, available at righteousbabe.com, will be donated to Phillips’ family.
