2004 Suzuki Hayabusa 1300-R
What was your main goal on this project?
To customize a sport bike that turned people’s heads, but to still be able to enjoy riding the bike. The modifications changed the ride of the bike a little bit. You still can hit those top speeds, but when you turn it feels like turning a bus.
How long did it take you from start to finish?
Taking the bike from original to where it is now took me seven months.
How much money did you spend on it total?
I have a little over $17,000 in the bike, just in modifications; therefore, I could have bought three Hayabusas for the price I paid for the bike itself.
What was the most expensive part?
The most expensive parts were the wheels and swingarm at a little over $9,000.
Where did you buy your parts?
The parts came from PPM Customs (Greenville, N.C.), Brian’s Motorsports (Hendersonville, Tenn.), Spyder Racing (Florida), TOCC (Pennsylvania), Polaris of Knoxville, Black Cat Customs (Niagara Falls, Ontario), and Spinwurkz (Williamsville, N.Y.).
Did you do the work yourself?
I did a lot of the work myself with the help of an old riding buddy, Danny. Jason, one of my best friends, did a lot of the designing of the bike. This was the first thing I have ever modified, so the whole build was difficult. There were times I thought I would never get it back together.
Is there anything else you’d like to do to it?
The bike came out just like I wanted it to at this point. I still have big plans to finish the bike off. Some of the modifications that are going to happen within the next couple of years are air ride, nitrous, lights, air shifter, and possibly making the bike belt-driven.
