For the fifth time in the last seven years and the third year in a row, WDVX has been named Bluegrass Station of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music of America.
WDVX DJ Fred Smith, a two-time winner of SPBGMA’s Bluegrass DJ of the Year, accepted the award in Nashville last weekend. “This represents an important acknowledgement to WDVX,” Smith says in a press release announcing the award. “I am blessed and honored to work at a station that allows us to broadcast and celebrate bluegrass music locally, nationally, and to the world through our webcast. I appreciate everyone who supports public radio and in particular the WDVX listener supporters and bluegrass musicians who support bluegrass and all the music we play.”
Not a bad run for a station that spent most of its first decade broadcasting from a trailer in Clinton.
