Just when we thought Knoxville’s reservoir of quirky historical tales had been tapped dry, Jack Neely has proven us wrong once again with a new book. No, it’s not Market Square: A History of the Most Democratic Place on Earth, which hit the stands last September; Neely has just unleashed another tome, sort of a greatest hits of Knox history: Knoxville: This Obscure Prismatic City. Taking its title from a line in Cormac McCarthy’s Suttree, the new collection was published by The History Press in South Carolina, and is currently available in local bookstores. There—now you have a gift idea just when you needed it.
