Energy Issues

The city’s Energy & Sustainability Task Force will meet Friday, Dec. 11 at 9 a.m. for updates on its various green initiatives. Topics include curbside recycling, the Solar America Cities Program, Energy Savings Performance contract status, the new energy efficient streetlights on Wall Avenue, and the new energy block grant awarded to the City by the Department of Energy in September 2009. The meeting will be at the East Tennessee History Center Auditorium, 601 S. Gay St.

On Thursday, Dec. 10, KUB will host a meeting to discuss a proposed electric substation in Fort Sanders at the southwest corner of N. Seventeenth and Dale Ave. UT has asked KUB to explore the possibility of building the substation to meet expanding demand in the area from residents, hospitals, and businesses. The meeting is open to the public and will take place between 6 and 7 p.m. at the Multipurpose Room at Knoxville Redeemer Church, 1642 Highland Av.
