“Wings Across Tennessee” Flying into Knoxville

On October 2, the 14th Annual “Wings Across Tennessee” ride will be coming through Knoxville, and anyone and everyone is invited to participate. This ride starts in Bristol, Tenn., and will head across the state, picking up other riders as it goes, until the group arrives at St Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis where they will present a check to the hospital. Last year, the group had grown to nearly 200 motorcycles by the time it rolled into Memphis.

This ride is actually the culmination of a year’s worth of fund-raising efforts by several Gold Wing Road Riders Association chapters across the state. During the year, each chapter conducts fund-raisers of various kinds, and at the end of the year all of the money is put together and presented as one large check to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Over $930,000 has been raised in the 13 years since it started, and they hope that this year’s donation puts them over the $1,000,000 mark.

The group will leave Atlas Honda in Bristol on Friday morning, October 2, and will arrive in Knoxville with a police escort at 12:15 p.m. They will proceed to the Cove Shelter for lunch. After lunch they will travel to Dickson, Tenn. where they will spend the night before riding into Memphis on Saturday. All area riders are welcome to join in on the ride for no fee.

If you are interested in joining the ride, wish to join the group for lunch, or would just like to make a donation, contact Tom Jayne, Chapter C Director, at 423-323-2239. Or check out their website, www.stjudeswingsacrosstn.com.
